Holiday Itinerary

Day 1:    Arrive at Paro Airport

Fly into Paro. The great snow-capped peaks of the inner Himalayas rising up to the heavens can be seen during clear weather. You will be received by our representative and Travel to Thimphu [1 hr]. Check in to the Hotel and relax.

Later enjoy a half day tour of Thimphu which includes visit to:

  • The National Library, housing an extensive collection of priceless Buddhist manuscripts.
    • The Painting School where students undergo training courses in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts.
    • The National Folk Heritage Museum to get an insight into the typical Bhutanese way of life.
    • The Textile Museum to get an understanding of the beautiful hand woven Bhutanese textiles.
    • Centenary Farmers' Market where farmers sell their farm produce.0
    • Takin Preserve which houses the national animal - Takin, which is an extremely rare member of goat family and is found only in Bhutan.
    • Craft Bazaar where artisans and craftsmen from across the country come to sell their products.
    • Take a short leisure hike to the Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park and enjoy the full view of Thimphu Valley below.
    • Visit Buddha Point and offer your prayers to the largest Buddha statue in the country.

After this exciting day trip of Thimphu, relax at the Hotel. Overnight stay at a hotel in Thimphu.

 

Day 2:    Thimphu – Punakha / Wangdue [2.5 hrs]

After breakfast, drive to Punakha  via the Dochula pass (3,140 m), from where you have superb view of the Eastern Himalayas.

  • Visit the beautiful 108 chortens built on the hill by the queen of Bhutan for the security and well being of the King of Bhutan.
  • Also visit Druk Wangyel Temple, which tells the story of a supreme warrior figure whose vision pierces the distance future.
  • Visit the Punakha Dzong, located on the island of the Pho-Chu and the Dho Jha Gha Lam Temple.
  • In the evening, walk through the Metshina Village and take a 20-minute walk through the rice fields to the Divine Madman’s Monastery - Chhimi Lhakhang, famously known for its fertility shrine, where couples unable to conceive babies come here for blessing.

After this exciting trip of Punakha, relax at the Hotel. Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha / Wangdue.

 

Day 3:    Wangdue / Punakha – Paro [4 hrs]

After breakfast travel to Paro via Dochula pass and southern part of Thimphu. On arrival at Paro, check into your hotel in Paro and after lunch visit the following:

  • Ta Dzong was built in the 17th century as a watchtower for the Paro Dzong. This dzong was converted into the National museum in 1967.
  • Rinpung Dzong was built in 1645 to defend the valley against Tibetan invaders.
  • Walk down to Rimpung Bridge (Traditional Bridge), the oldest bridge in Bhutan.
  • From the dzong, walk further down to Nyamai Zampa, an oldest traditional cantilever bridge in Bhutan.

In the evening stroll through Paro town and you may visit local shops. Overnight stay at the Hotel in Paro.

 

Day 4:    Day Trip to Paro Taktsang Goemba (Tiger's Nest Monastery)

After breakfast, take a hike to Taktsang Goemba, popularly known as 'Tiger's Nest' Monastery. The hike up to the view point will take about 2 hours. From the view point enjoy the spectacular view of the monastery clinging to the side of a high cliff.

Hike further to the monastery which will take about 1.5 hrs. It was first built in 1692, around a cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for 3 months in the 8th century. It is believed that Guru Padmasambhava flew to this location on the back of a tigress and subdued a demon. He then performed meditation in one of the caves here and emerged in 8 incarnated forms and blessed the place. Subsequently, the place came to be known as Tiger's Nest.

After visiting the monastery, walk back down to the view point and stop for lunch. Then drive to your hotel in Paro visiting Kichu temple on the way. Built in 7th century, this temple is a makes you feel at peace. In the evening, relax after a tiring day. Overnight stay at a hotel in Paro.

 

Day 5:    Departure from Paro

In the morning, drop at the Paro airport for your onward destinations.
